Now that is fall, the summer tans are pretty much over. However, they don’t have to be. Thanks to self-tanning products, you can get a summer glow/tan all year around. Self-tanning products have come a long way!

I am a huge advocate of skin cancer prevention. Skin cancer is very serious and deadly. It claims many lives every year. The easiest way to prevent it is to stay out of the sun and when you must be in the sun, make sure you are using sunscreen. I totally understand tans look nice, but they are not worth the risk to your health. Luckily, you can still get a tan without harming your body. Self-tanners are a great way to achieve a pain-free and more healthy tan. They can give you a natural looking tan without the harmful sun rays.

When I read about Norvell’s new Dancing With The Stars Self-Tanning line, I jumped right on it. The products sounded so amazing and I love that they are paraben free. I couldn’t wait to review them for you all and see if they really gave a natural looking tan. I am also a huge fan of Dancing With The Stars, so I couldn’t wait to have these in my hands. Onto the review! Also, stay tuned until the end for a chance to win something for yourself!

my self-tanning steps:

These are the steps I take to ensure the best self-tan:

  • Step 1: 24 hours prior to applying self-tanner, exfoliate the skin with a good scrub
  • Step 2: Shower before applying self tanner
  • Step 3: Apply in-shower moisturizer so there are no dry patches (I like in-shower moisturizers best because they are not thick and won’t cause your tan to streak)
  • Step 4: Make sure you completely dry your skin
  • Step 5: Apply a thick lotion to your feet, ankles, knees, elbows, and any other extra dry areas on your body (this will prevent the tanner from clinging to these areas and creating those dark patches)
  • Step 6: Apply self-tanner to the skin and blend in with hands. Make sure to work in sections (I start with the bottom half of my body)
  • Step 7: Wash hands after each body area (helps prevent palms from being stained)
  • Step 8: Apply self-tanner to hands last
  • Step 9: Apply self-tanner to face with a cosmetic sponge and make sure everything is blended (I don’t usually apply self-tanner to my face because I just match my foundation to my skin tone)
  • Step 10: Let self-tanner completely dry before dressing
  • Step 11: Get dressed
  • Step 12: Let the tan develop over the next 24 hours. Note: Do not shower or sweat for at least 8 hours to prevent streaks
  • Step 13: If you missed any spots, apply self tanner with a cosmetic sponge to these areas the next day
  • Step 14: Enjoy your tan and make sure to moisturize every day to prolong your tan

review of norvell’s dancing with the stars self tanning airbrush spray:

I was really impressed with the packaging of this product. The bottle feels so nice and I loved that nose plugs came with each bottle. The nose plugs ensure that you are not breathing in the chemicals. I love that Norvell took this precaution even though the chemicals are not harmful to you. I really couldn’t wait to try this airbrush spray.

I would recommend spraying this product in a large room or outside. The spray can be a bit messy. The self-tanner also has a very nice smell. It doesn’t have a fake tan smell and doesn’t leave any scent on your skin. I found the best way to use it was to spray a little on the skin and then blend in. The instructions say to spray in a continuous motion. However, I find just spraying it on doesn’t give even results. Therefore, spray some of the product onto the skin and blend in with your hands. Start by applying a little and add more as you see desired.

I really like that the self-tanner has a color guard so that you know exactly where you are applying the product. It looks streaky at first (don’t worry), but magically blends into the skin (I was really impressed by this). The color guard will wash off the next day in your shower leaving behind a beautiful tan. The color guard is not too orange and I liked the result. It also did not rub off on my clothes.

The tan developed in about 15 hours. My legs are darker than the top half of my body because I was getting use to how the system worked. However, I love how my legs turned out. I would recommend having a friend or significant other help you apply the self-tanner, especially in places you can’t reach. I love that the color is not orange and really looks like a tan. It is not streaky and blends perfectly into the skin.

The tan lasts about a week. It didn’t fade much at all in the first four days. After four days, the tan gradually fades. I love the gradual fading because it looks so natural. I actually loved the tan even more on the fourth day. This self-tanner just really works with your body. I have never had a self-tanner last this long on me. It is so nice not having to reapply every 2-3 days. This self-tanner is hands down my favorite self-tanner I have used thus far.

The only negatives I have are the self-tanner is a bit messy (most self-tanners are). Also, you use a lot of the product for each application. One bottle will only last about 3-4 tans. However, that really isn’t bad when you consider each tan will last you a week. Therefore, one bottle will last about a month. I would say that is pretty decent for a self-tanner.

The price is also good considering one spray tan at a salon will cost you $25-$50 per spray tan. Salon tans last about the same amount of time as the Norvell DWTS Airbrush Spray tans. Therefore, you are saving a ton of money because one bottle will last you about a month.

Overall, I am thrilled with this self-tanner. I love it so much. I love the color and that it is not streaky at all. I also loved that it didn’t smell fake and didn’t leave behind a fake tan scent. I am so impressed with the amount of time the self-tan lasts. I feel more confident when I am wearing this self-tanner. It fades beautifully and I just really love it.

  • No fake tan smell
  • Not streaky
  • Color looks tan
  • Lasts about a week
  • Has a color guard

  • Messy
  • Use a lot of product per application

REVIEW OF norvell’s dancing with the stars dazzle shimmer mist:

Norvell says this about the Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) Dazzle Shimmer Mist:

Enhance a great tan or hairstyle with brilliant shimmer.

Shake it – that is what you’ll want to do with this super-fine shimmering spray. Whether accentuating the hottest tan in town or enhancing a hairstyle, this adds a little glitz and glam to every day.

When I saw this product, I totally freaked! It is so stunning and shimmery! I am all about glitter and totally loved the looks of this product. It is seriously the most sparkly thing I have ever seen.

I love how this shimmer mist looks with the DWTS Airbrush Spray. My legs looked like a million bucks. The shimmer mist reflects light beautifully and my legs just sparkled. The spray is very easy to apply. You don’t need to rub it in (if you do, you will lose most of the product).

The only negative I have with this spray is that it doesn’t last long. You do have to reapply. However for a date night out, this spray is perfect. If you want you man’s jaw to drop, then this is the spray for you. I just really love it and love all the sparkle.

  • Beautiful shimmer
  • So sparkly
  • Sprays on ever easily

  • Doesn’t last long
